in case you were wondering

In an essay he wrote entitled Society and Solitude, Emerson concluded, “A man must be clothed with society, or we shall feel a certain bareness and poverty.”  Another way to put it –– “It is not good for man to be alone.”

This quote got me thinking of some things I had read not long ago about our “personhood,” in the fully Christian sense, not being realized apart from communion with God and others. Here’s another quote:

To be whole as a human person, is quite distinct from wholeness as an individual. Person carries within it the uniqueness and unrepeatablity that we usually associate with the word individual. However, it also carries within it – at its very root – the understanding that a person properly only exists in communion with another person. It is in this sense that we may say “God is love.” Love is not some abstract essence which may be equated with the being of God. Rather, God is love because the Father loves the Son and the Spirit and the Son loves the Father and the Spirit and the Spirit loves the Father and the Son. “The Person is He Who alone and genuinely lives. Aside from this vital principle nothing can exist: ‘In him was life; and the life was the light of men’ [John 1:4]. The fundamental content of this life is love: ‘God is love’ [1 John 4:8]. The personal being realizes himself through loving contact with another person or persons.”

re: the random-ness

Ok...so you've located the place where I put down my random thoughts. The key word here is random: music, sports, art, food, books, news, spiritual musings, weird stories, etc. I'm especially interested in how everyday experiences of life intersect with the ancient stories of Scripture. Thanks for reading.
