homeless students

homeless studentStruggling with poverty is not merely an adult problem.  For example, the trend of increasing homelessness in the Chicago suburbs has not spared students from the experience of having no where to call “home.”  For us living on the outskirts of the windy city, we should know that statewide the number of homeless students is up 48% over last year with our own suburban DuPage county showing a mushrooming increase of  75% .   That is a troubling reality.

Having a home to live in is easy to take for granted and I can’t even imagine being a child without a home. Still I’am left with the question of how large of a problem is this? Does a 75% increase mean a few more kids, dozens more,or hundreds more? One homless child is to many its just the percentage increase leaves me wondering.

re: the random-ness

Husband. Father. Senior Pastor of Parkview Community Church in Glen Ellyn, IL.

Ok...so you've located the place where I put down my random thoughts. The key word here is random: music, sports, art, food, books, news, spiritual musings, weird stories, etc. I'm especially interested in how everyday experiences of life intersect with the ancient stories of Scripture. Thanks for reading.
